Today was my long run. Haven't mapped in Gmaps but should have been close to 5 miles. I didn't like the run/walk the other day. I don't think it's bad, I like the idea behind it - I think I walked to much. Today I tried walking 1 minute for every 8 minutes of running. This seemed to work better and I just ran the last 12. I think I use the word run to liberally - actually jog. Running never comes into play but it sure sounds good.

Okay - I just mapped it -
Distance - 4.5 miles Time - 58:51 mins

So I think since I have been back from Trek I've been very lazy in my eating. I noticed that I didn't track some dinners this week and last night we went to dinner and I wasn't too picky. We went to Mexican and I ordered a Pork Verde Enchilada, rice and low-fat refried beans. I ate the chips and salsa liberally. After that, we went to Coldstone Ice Cream. I usually get the fat free sweet cream - this time Oreo filling flavor with added Oreos and caramel. WHAT??? I came home, figured out the points - not bad on the dinner - not great though. The ice cream - over 800 calories!
Time to buckle down. I'm not done. I'm half way and that's great. Today I start new goals. Just like the beginning!
1. Track everything!
2. 5 servings a day of fruits and veggies!
3. Water! Water! Water!
4. No sweets - no sugar this week.

  1. The whole run/walk thing is a good method, but I don't really use it. It is too hard for me to start running again. I tighten up too fast. I did use it for the marathon. I like your idea of running 8 and walking 1. If you choose to do it, just be consistent. I really believe you can do the 10k without it. In a race, a good method is to walk through the water stops. You don't spill the water, and you get a short rest without tightening up.
Wetsuit thing is amazing. It is for the Spudman this Saturday. I had to change sizes, so hopefully it will be back in time.
What 10k are you going to do? If you are going to be here Thanksgiving, there is a 5k in Paul. It is really fun. I would love to see and run with you. Have a great day!

  2. Good luck this Saturday! I'm sure you will do great! We will be in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving - with the inlaws - that would be fun to do if I was going to be there. There's a real sense of accomplishment to run the entire distance and not walk - it's a huge mental thing. I'm planning on running the 10k that's with the Layton Marathon in October. I haven't signed up yet but that's what I have in mind! Have a great day!
