Almost done for the week. Today was a 4 mile run. The first mile was a warm up, next 2 miles were at goal pace and the last mile was cool down. It felt good. I was tired when I was done. I haven't been able to figure out the difference between now and a month, even two months ago. I am slower. It's not my gps, it's not inside or outside. I am slower. I think I peaked about 3 weeks ago. I've been looking through my history on my Nike ap and my times are 30 - 40 seconds faster per mile.
Two months ago I had the goal of finishing my half marathon in two and a half hours. Now I feel like I'm just running to finish. Wait. Maybe this is all..... mental. How many times have I said that 90% of my running is mental? When will I start believing it?
Come out sun! Come out and give me a great day to run. I want to run and run and run. Give me a mental boost and show yourself!
Okay, it is 90% mental, but 10% not. You may be right, you may have peaked in March, but that is not to say you cannot peak again. It may be a good idea to take a rest week. This is not a sit on your behind break, but a much easier week. Sometimes you need to rest. You have greatly increased your milage. How many weeks until your 1/2? You may want to reconsider that 14 mile run. Is that part of the Hal Higdon training plan? Before the first 1/2 I did, I had run 10 miles once, in March (the run was in June). My long runs before I ran the 1/2 had been 6 miles. I have done three half marathons, and that was my fastest. I was well rested, yet knew I could accomplish the miles. You have done all those long runs, you know you can run that far, and that is a huge part of the prep. Consider a slow week. It would need to start asap so you can have a couple good weeks before the 1/2. Remember to taper the whole week before the run. It is like taking a test, at some point, it doesn't matter anymore what you do, because you are either prepared or you are not. And you, Molly, are prepared. By the way, don't you love it when the comment is longer than your post....Sorry.
