Life is moving too fast!

Thursday, after running I was a little discouraged about my shoes. I really wanted to like them. I had them, I didn't want the hassle of a return. I tried to like them when I was running but I just didn't. There was no way I could do 26.2 miles in a pair of shoes that I didn't like.

I decided to make a trip to Runner's Corner in Orem. I've purchased shoes there before but my last trip wasn't the best. I tried on my current shoes there and then bought them online. They just aren't my favorite. I went at a great time. They weren't that busy and I got to spend some time with a guy who really knew what he was talking about. I told him exactly what I was looking for. I told him about my toes tingling. He brought out a quite a few shoes to try on. I tried on shoes and ran in them for about 30 minutes before I settled on two pair. A pair of Mizunos and a pair of Brooks. I absolutely loved them both. I did need two pair so I got them.

Saturday, but to conventional wisdom's dismay, I did my long run in a pair of shoes that I'd only worn around the house. Twelve miles. My toes did tingle and did fall asleep a little but I dealt with it.

My long run was set for Saturday afternoon. After all the basketball games were done. I ate a peanut butter & honey sandwich knowing I had a couple of hours before my run. I was getting my running stuff together when my neighbor knocked on the door and wanted to know if I wanted to run with him and another friend of ours. I loved the thought of not running ALONE. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect. These guys keep a good pace and I was fortunate to stay with them most of the way. They slowed down for me about mile 9 and we ran together all the way home. I'm grateful that they ran slower for me and proud that I was able to finish with them. I am so used to stopping every two miles and walking for a minute. These guys only stopped 2-3 times. It was a great push for me. It showed me what I really can do.

My legs were dying when I got done - let me rephrase that. They actually felt really good until I got home and started stretching. My husband helped me stretch, I took a HOT shower and then used my foam roller. After the foam roller, my legs felt great. It wasn't until we went to dinner that night that my right leg started to twinge. Right where the glute meets the hamstring. By Sunday night I was feeling pretty good.

This morning I did my three miles and at the end felt great. I'm thankful for a body that is amazing enough to run 12 miles and resilient enough to recover so fast!

Did I tell you the best part about my new shoes??? They were last year's model so they were a lower price and they gave me an extra 20% off. Awesome deal! If you need new shoes now maybe the time because the new models are coming out!
